TOUR TO THE YASUNI NATIONAL PARK-COMMUNITIES OF ÑONENO-BAMENO

This World Biosphere Reserve of 9,820 square kilometers is the ultimate for birders visiting Ecuador with 567 species of birds already registered here. This makes the park one of the sites with the greatest diversity of birds on the planet. Eighty percent of the region is terra firma and much of the park has not been explored due to the isolated peoples living here, especially in the Waorani Indigenous reserve.

There is easy access from Coca along the Napo to the famous clay lick of Añangu.  Other access areas to the park include the Tivacuno, Tiputini, Yasuni, Shiripuno Tiguino and Napo Rivers.

Harpy Eagles, Black Hawk-Eagles, Red-and-Green Macaws, Scarlet Macaws, Blue-and-Yellow Macaws, many other species of parrots, jaguar, tapir, 10 species of primates, caiman, sloths and the infamous anaconda are amongst the many other species of wildlife that inhabit Greater Yasuni.  This is the ultimate fantasy for any adventurer, naturalist and anthropologist.

This trip is perfect for the adventurous guest with more time who wishes to explore a variety of ecosystems.

Fauna observation cannot be predicted.  The YNP is a region with intact forests and all the indicator species located here indicate a healthy and rich forest.  It is recommended that our guests relax and wait and see what the forest has to offer during this tour.  Weather, noise and the time of day influence animal observation. The Amazon is not a zoo.  It is a place of mystery and intrigue and it is a privilege for all of us to enter.

To increase our guests’ chances of seeing wildlife during our tours, we recommend that you start your activities early each morning.  Using your ears is just as important as using your eyes and it is important to listen to what may be happening around you and keep silent as much as possible. Nocturnal excursions (canoeing and hiking) offer excellent opportunities to see some of the more mysterious animals in the forest offering our client  an excellent opportunity to study insects, frogs, snakes and of course a favorite, the  Kinkajous and Night Owl Monkeys.

Accommodations:  Camping or sleeping in a village (San Isla). Lodge accommodations with private bath and hot water are available at additional expense.  See also Napo Lodge for more luxurious accommodations located in Añangu.  If you wish to camp along the shores of many of the important rivers in the area such as the Yasuni, Tiguino, Shiripuno and Cononaco, this may also be arranged.

Waorani, Kichwa and 3 non-contacted groups live within the boundaries of this park.
