We did a 5 day trip to the Waorani Territory in Yasuni Nationalpark with Amazon Wildlife Tours and it was the highlight of our trip to Ecuador! If you're adventurous, don't mind sleeping in a tent and love the outdoors - you should definitely visit Yasuni Nationalpark. It's one of the most beautiful places on earth and home to a huge variety of animals and plants.
Be prepared to observe the oil industries severe impact while entering the national park through the still growing buffer zone. A sad truth that underlines the importance of protecting the heart of Yasuni.
Diego is an incredibly knowledgeable guide, has a background in biology and the national park is his second home. Expect to see macaws, tucans, turtles, monkeys, caimans and peccaries. The jungle is full of life and you never know what you'll discover during the next hike or canoe trip, so always observe the surroundings carefully. If you're very lucky you might also have the chance to spot an anaconda, tapir or an anteater.
We definitely recommend staying 5 or 6 days, since you'll be able to visit the heart of the national park. The trip was well-organized, John cooked delicious food for us and fresh drinking water was provided. Camping was cozy, but don't expect hot showers - you'll be in jungle!
This trip will always remain in our memories!! Thanks a lot to Amazon Wildlife Tours for this unique experience, in particular thanks to Diego for being the best guide we could have wished for :) Once you've seen the beauty of Yasuni you'll realize (even more) why the protection of this national park is so important and how sustainable tourism can help supporting the future of Yasuni.
